I was born in Kansas City, Missouri. As a landlocked individual, I have always desired to live next to the ocean. It didn't matter which one, but I guess I was partial to the Pacific. One day, I finally got my wish, and I've been loving it ever since. It's the Atlantic, but I am living closer to it than I ever could afford on the Pacific!

Up and Coming Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Wow! I can't believe what is happening in Myrtle Beach and the surrounding areas. It is becoming one of the premier vacation spots of America! Let me share some thoughts with you about this area.
Come for vacation! The local communities really try to accommodate you whether you want to stay in a hotel or rent a home. May I suggest you rent a home in the Surfside Beach area? Surfside Beach is known as "The Family Beach." During the peak of summer, (or more so in the off-season) you can rent a home for a very reasonable price compared to other parts of the country. By renting your own house, you can save money by cooking at home. Another good reason to rent a home is that most homes come equipped with a washer and dryer. Also, many homes have a pool and a barbeque. It's a good time to sit around and get to know the family all over again. One of the best areas in Surfside Beach is at North Sixth Avenue and North Dogwood Avenue. There are many condos mixed in with two-story homes, making it easy for the family to stay close together. Of Course, the main reason to be close is to be able to plan family outings and get-togethers each day.

If you want to go to dinner, there is no lack of delicious restaurants from which to choose. May I suggest you try Crabby Mikes Seafood Restaurant on Hwy. Business 17 for a full buffet with 120 items? Boy, it's GREAT! For Chinese Food, a wonderful buffet is "New China", also in Surfside Beach on Hwy. Business 17, where you can get a full lunch buffet of 120 items for $5.75, including hot tea! (Seniors prices are $4.75!)

Here is another great feature about The Grand Strand Area; the many entertainment venues. You will find that there are many live Theatre performances, including Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede and The Medieval Times, as well as several other state-of-the-art theatres. There is also a brand new theme park being built in the area, hopefully to be completed by next year. It will be a Hard Rock Café Theme Park, very similar to a Six Flags Theme Park. With all of the entertainment and fun attractions here, that should be enough to keep the whole family delighted. If amusement parks and theatre productions don't suit you, there are miles of beaches to walk or swim, and scores of golf courses to play, both miniature and the 18-Hole variety!
Finally, if you are planning to retire in the next few years, you should take a look at the Grand Strand Area. You will find that housing is very affordable. It is still possible to buy a home on the beach for 1 to 2 million, and every price in between. Coastal homes in most places in America are priced much higher than the home values in the Myrtle Beach area. If you choose to wait, you may miss the opportunity that is still available.
In closing, you might think that I am writing this article because I am a travel agent, a realtor, a member of The Chamber of Commerce, or a local business owner. No, my husband and I are just a couple who are having a wonderful time enjoying our lives in the Myrtle Beach area. We need to stop and smell the roses, but may we suggest something else instead? Come toThe Grand Strand and smell the ocean air! |
